Habib Khal
As the third-generation representative of the family that created Khal Mohammadi rugs, Habib wholeheartedly carries on this unique craft tradition. His family’s history of rug-making has instilled in him a deep appreciation for the value and cultural heritage of hand-woven rugs. Yamil Craft, drawing on Habib’s family’s rich history of production and passion for handicrafts, aims to bring this cultural heritage to a wider audience. Yamil Craft aims to present the history and artistic value of hand-woven rugs to the global market at affordable prices.
Our History
It dates back to the 1960s, when Khal Mohammad began his journey in the rug-weaving industry by collecting antique rugs. After a while, having specialised in rugs, Mr Khal Mohammad began working in collaboration with women from his own town and neighbouring villages in the northern regions of Afghanistan, who wove their pieces with great skill and craftsmanship, with the aim of introducing their work to the global market. With great passion and dedication, Khal succeeded in creating a bridge that connects Afghanistan’s rich cultural heritage to customers around the world by introducing their works to the global market. He then created his own collection: Khal Mohammadi Rugs. With their unique organic dyeing technique, vibrant red colours, velvety textures and distinctive geometric patterns, Khal Mohammadi rugs have rapidly gained worldwide recognition. Today, our operations span three continents: North America (USA), Europe and Asia.

Our factory
Our production facility is situated in Akça, in the northern region of Afghanistan. More than 90 per cent of our skilled weavers are local Turkmen women who earn a living by working from home in Akça. This provides a reliable income for approximately 2,500 families who would otherwise struggle to find employment opportunities. Our entire production cycle – from the meticulous selection of high-quality wools right through to packaging – takes place at a single central location to ensure consistent quality at every stage. To preserve traditional techniques and prioritise environmental sustainability, we avoid the use of machinery in our processes as much as possible. In particular, at a time when industrially manufactured goods have come to dominate the market, we place even greater value on handmade products.
